Shazam, the mobile music recognition company, today announced that it will launch its service on the 19th August with the four major mobile operators in the UK. The service will be available via a four-digit short code, 2580, meaning that the Shazam service will go live with more than 40 million UK mobile users having instant access to music identification from their mobile phones.

Shazam has developed the world's first-ever real-time song identification service that works anywhere. When users hear a song they like they simply dial 2580 from their mobile, wait fifteen seconds while Shazam listens to the music, and immediately learn the name of the song and the artist via text message. The company has developed a break-through technology in audio pattern recognition to enable this service, for which five patent applications have been filed. Shazam's service will enable consumers to interact with music that inspires them using only
their mobile phone. Research, carried out by NOP for Shazam, shows that approximately 50% of people in the 12-35 age bracket would use the Shazam service regularly. In addition, a recent Nokia-sponsored study found that music applications were one of the top categories of interest to mobile phone users.

Jerry Roest, CEO, Shazam Entertainment commented, "This is key news for Shazam and for our launch. The fact that we have all four major networks in the UK on board is a clear indication of the strength of our offering. We are also keen to work with mobile phone companies in order to drive music enthusiasts towards premium services and discussions have already begun with mobile operator marketing teams to integrate the Shazam service into their upcoming campaigns. We believe we have built a service that is both unique and compelling for mobile phone users."
