Independent record companies will be at the forefront of a new music recognition service being launched this summer, following conclusion of a deal between Aim and Shazam.
It is the first clips licence deal to be put in place by Shazam, although director of business development Philip Inghelbrecht says he is negotiating with several of the majors and

expects to announce their involvement shortly.
Shazam enables users to recognise music when they hold their mobile phones up to a source such as a radio or PA system in a bar.
After a short listen, users press four digits and the song and artist details are relayed to their phone
