This week's Featured Tag Chart Track
Ashanti "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)" (Murder Inc.)
The International pop world's R&B/ Hip Hop princess is going from strength to strength. With the family-esque support of the music world's current most intimidating label, this angelic, oft seen "out-of-place" Murder Inc. artist stands out in a scene where R&B female singers seem two-a-penny. Ashanti Douglas first graced the playlists lending her chords to Ja Rule's smash "Always On Time" and followed this debut to the charts with a slew of sweet, upbeat and remarkably "tame" one word title tracks such as "Foolish", "Happy" and "Baby". Label mogul Irv Gotti seems like the least appropriate mentor for this 21-year old, what with reknowned
allegations of dubious gangsta dealings associated with Murder Inc. Ja Rule. J. Lo. Big Pun. Fat Joe - She’s worked with all of them, writing lyrics and singing hooks that help their records reach the top of the music charts. Ms. Douglas' self penned debut album is definitely proving to be a hit with a vast younger Urban fanbase; one that appears to be constantly growing and going beyond the boundaries of ethnicity and culture.
