Avery Wang (Chief Scientist) has over 12 years of experience in multimedia digital signal processing (DSP) algorithm design. Prior to Shazam, he was co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Hyperactive Audio Systems and a lead DSP algorithms architect at Chromatic Research. He has been granted eight patents and has at least 10 pending. Avery studied as a Fulbright Scholar in Germany and holds a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and three other degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, where he studied at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) under professor Julius O.
